I-B-2-a. JAMES W. SIBERT (1889 – 1947), son of Robert E. Sibert4 (Henry3, David2, John David1)
James W. Sibert was born in October 1889 in Alabama. He died in 1947 in Cherokee County, Alabama. [1] He married Amanda Rebecca Bobo on 27 February 1910 in Collinsville, Cherokee County. [1][2][3] Amanda was the daughter of Jessie W. and Sarah (Bering) Bobo. [4] She was born in February 1886 in Alabama. She died on 17 October 1956 in Collinsville. [1][4]
James W. and Amanda R. Sibert are buried together in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherokee County; their gravestone has their birth and death years. [1]
According to the census, in 1900, James Sibert, born in October 1889 in Alabama, lived with his mother Rebecca and her second husband Jessie Brown in Stafford, Cherokee County. Amanda R., born in February 1886 in Alabama, was living with her parents Jessie W. and Sarah E. Bobo in Stafford. [5]
In 1910, James W., aged 22, and Mandy R., aged 21, lived in Brindley, Cherokee County with Jessie M. and Rebecca P. Brown. James was a farm laborer. In 1920, James W., aged 31, and Amanda R., aged 29, lived in Stafford with their children Rosco R., aged eight; Olga A., aged five; and William T., aged one. The children were born in Alabama. James was a farmer; Rosco was a farm laborer and did not attend school. In 1930, James W., aged 42, and Amanda R., aged 40, lived in Stafford with their children Roscoe R., aged 18; Olga A., aged 15; and William Theodore, aged 11. James was a farmer; Amanda, Roscoe and Olga were farm laborers. Only William attended school. In 1940, James W., aged 52, and Manda, aged 50, lived in Stafford with their son William T., aged 21. James was a farmer and William was a farm laborer. James had gone to school up to the fourth grade; Manda had gone up to the fifth grade; William had completed one year of high school. [5]
In 1950, Amanda, aged 61, was a widow. She lived in Stafford with her son, William T., aged 31; William's wife Nina, aged 25 and born in Alabama; and her sister Elizabeth Bobo, aged 58. William was a farmer and Nina and Elizabeth were farm laborers. [5]
Children of James W. Sibert and Amanda Bobo:
i. Roscoe Robert Sibert was born on 11 April 1911 in Alabama. [1] He died on 8 August 1981. [1] He married Minnie Velma Sarratt. [1] Minnie was born on 20 April 1910 and died on 2 November 1964. [1] Roscoe and Minnie are buried in the Hunts Chapel Cemetery in Cherokee County. [1]
In 1940, Rosco R., aged 28, and Minnie V., aged 28, lived in Brindley with their children James B., aged six; Jo Ann, aged four; Archie R., aged three; and Robert T., aged seven months. Rosco was a farmer. In 1950 Robert R., aged 38, and Velma, aged 38, lived in Stafford with their children, James B., aged 16; Jo Ann, aged 14; Archie R., aged 12; Robert T., aged ten; William R., aged eight; Peggy J., aged seven; [possibly living]; and Opal D., aged one. Robert was a farmer and James and Jo Ann were farm helpers. [5]
Children of Roscoe R. Sibert and Minnie Velma Sarratt:
- James B. Sibert was born on 1 April 1934 and died on 11 November 2011. [1] He married Nellie ___. [1] James and Nellie are buried in the Kirk Memorial Gardens in Rainsville, DeKalb County. [1]
James was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, brother William R., and sisters Jo Ann Cash and Peggy J. Sims. [1]
- Jo Ann Sibert was born about 1936 in Alabama. She died on 2 September 2010 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. [6] She married [possibly living].
Joanne was survived by a son and siblings J.B. Sibert, Archie Sibert, Robert Sibert, Peggy Sims, [possibly living], and Dana Scott. [6]
- Archie Ross Sibert was born on 20 October 1937 in Cherokee County, Alabama. [1] Archie of Trion, Georgia died on 21 October 2021 and is buried in the Green Hills Memory Gardens in Pennville, Chattooga County, Georgia. [1] He married Ruby Sparks. [1]
Archie survived his wife; his sisters Dana Scott, Joanne Cash and Peggy Sims; and his brothers James, Robert, and Rodney Sibert. He was survived by his sister [possibly living] and three daughters. [1]
- Robert Tommie Sibert was born on 28 August 1939. [1] He died on 20 May 2014. [1] He married first Norma Wynell Williams. [1] Wynell was born on 17 June 1940 and died on 21 April 2015. [1] Robert and Norma are buried in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Geraldine. [1] Robert married second Brenda (Perkins) Clements. [1] Brenda was born on 28 May 1944 and died on 14 June 2013. [1] She is buried in the Brookwood Memorial Gardens in Arab, Marshall County. [1] She married first Robert W. Clements. Children of Robert Tommie Sibert and Norma Wynell Williams:
- Tommy Sibert died by 21 April 2015.
- Timothy Sibert died by 21 April 2015.
- William Rodney Sibert was born on 31 December 1941. [1] William of Birmingham died on 15 July 2003 and is buried in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, Jefferson County. [1][7]
William was survived by his wife and three children; his sisters Jo Ann Cash, Peggy Sims, [possibly living], and Dana Scott; and his brothers J.B., Robert, and Archie Sibert. [7]
- Peggy J. Sibert was born about 1943 in Alabama. She died between 2 September 2010 and 11 November 2011. She married [possibly living]
- Opal Dana Sibert was born on 28 May 1948 in Alabama. [8] Dana Sibert Scott of Reece City, Etowah County died on 20 September 2014. [9] She married [possibly living].
ii. Olga Azile (Azelee) Sibert was born on 19 June 1914 in Collinsville. [1][2] She died on 8 September 1998. [1][2] She married Isaac David Cagle on 11 March 1934 in DeKalb County, Alabama. [2, no first name][1][10] Isaac was born on 14 June 1912 and died in May 1981. [1] Olga and Isaac are buried in the DeKalb Memorial Gardens in Geraldine, DeKalb County. [1]
Children of Isaac David Cagle and Olga Azile Sibert:
- Dorothy Jean Cagle was born on 17 December 1935 and died on 27 July 2016. [1] She married James Franklin Barnes. [1] James was born in 1931 and died on 9 May 2001. [1] Dorothy and James are buried in the DeKalb Memorial Gardens. [1] James left a daughter and three sons. [1]
- William David Cagle was born on 8 January 1951 and died on 19 October 2023 in Boaz, Marshall County, Alabama. [1] He left two daughters. [1]
iii. William Theodore Sibert was born on 27 July 1918 in Cherokee County. [11] He died in 1982. [1] He married Nina ___. Nina was born on 31 December 1924 in Alabama and died on 6 August 1987. [1] William and Nina are buried in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
According to his 16 October 1940 World War II draft card, William was 5 feet, 6 inches tall with brown eyes, black hair, and a dark complexion. He did not have a telephone. [11]
